Herbalism & Magic: Marigolds have been used in ancient Aztec and Mayan cultures as a symbol for the afterlife and are still used in modern times in Dia de los Muertos observances to guide the spirits of the departed back home. European and Mexican traditions ascribe Marigolds with properties of protection and prophecy.

Zoology: Bats are associated with the underworld since they often emerge from caves at dusk and are nocturnal.

Permaculture: In gardening, Marigolds serve as a companion plant and can protect nearby plants from pests and deer, which don’t care for the plant’s smell. Marigolds are also reported to attract bats due to their fragrance. The bats will consume insects at night, and their poop makes a great fertilizer.

Astrology: Scorpio is a sign associated with death, the afterlife, mysteries and the unknown.

Geometry: Scorpio mainly occurs in the 11th month of November, so there are 11 moons in the image.
