Sarah Stone is a North American painter best known for her colorful interpretations of people and nature. She calls her style, “Contemporary Pop Folk Art,” an amalgam of pop-culture and outsider influences, ancestral memories, and dreams. Her subjects are people she meets in her travels, and the urban wildlife she encounters in her adopted city, Los Angeles.

Largely self-taught in painting, she studied film animation at Philadelphia’s University of the Arts before relocating to LA in 1981. There she discovered the Venice studios of Roger Corman where she worked as a prop maker, animator, and set muralist. This began a lengthy career designing for film and theater productions, laying the foundation for her current multi-disciplinary art practice.

Sarah paints with acrylics on wood and mural fabric, often also employing found objects and various mixed media in her work.
